Councillor Walt Burrows

Tributes are being paid following the death of long serving councillor Walter Burrows this morning. Walt was very well known and respected in the area and currently represented Hollingwood on the county council.

His funeral will take place at Brimington Methodist Church at 1.15pm on Monday, November 3, and afterwards at the Casa Hotel.

Rededication of War Memorial

Memorial Frame 022A new oak  frame has been installed and the small garden is being landscaped at the war memorial as part of the FOSTA project, “Barrow Hill: A Community Remembers.”

The memorial was erected after the First World War in memory of the men of Barrow Hill and Hollingwood. It will be rededicated on Sunday 2nd November when representatives of the Royal British Legion, relatives of casualties, Barrow Hill Memorial Club, Barrow Hill Roundhouse, Hollingwood Residents Association and school children will lay wreaths in memory of those who died.

Poster Scan 2The parade will be led by the Cresswell Colliery Brass Band and will leave from outside St Andrew’s Church at 2pm for a short service at the memorial. There will be a display in the Memorial Club which will be open afterwards.

Everyone is welcome to come along and show their respect for those local people who gave their lives in two world wars.
