Flog it!

1-2016-09-01The popular BBC TV antiques programme, ‘Flog It!’, presented by Paul Martin, is set to visit the area later this month.The cameras are to roll for a valuation day at the iconic Barrow Hill Roundhouse Railway Centre on Thursday, September 29 (9.30 am to 4 pm).

Members of the public will be invited to go along to the unique heritage attraction with up to three antiques or collectables they might be interested in selling. Once the items are valued, the owners and a team of experts decide whether they should go forward for auction at Hansons Auctioneers in Etwall on Thursday, October 20. Everyone who goes to the valuation day will receive a free appraisal of their items, even if they are not chosen for auction.

Mayor canalThe Barrow Hill Heritage Trail was officially launched by the Mayor of Chesterfield on Saturday at a village open day.

With displays, demonstrations, Victorian characters and activities, everyone had a fun-filled day.

Lottery Funding for Roundhouse

AlexaThe historic Barrow Hill Roundhouse rail centre has successfully got through the first stage of a bid for £100,000 of Heritage Lottery Funding to preserve the site as a national treasure.

Judges have been greatly impressed with the development of the centre, off Campbell Drive, and its array of diverse events, attractions and commercial roles alongside its ambitious plans for the future. Read more here

Rededication of Barrow Hill War Memorial

The newly refurbished war memorial and garden at Barrow Hill were rededicated at a special service on Sunday 2nd November.

The parade was led by the Cresswell Colliery Brass Band and the service was conducted by the Rector of Staveley, Father Stephen Jones.

Wreaths were laid by representatives of service organisations, local community groups and relatives of casualties.

July 2014 034First Structure Ltd is running a railway training course for 17 and 18 year olds at Barrow Hill Roundhouse. You will earn £320 per month for 3 days attendance per week. You will achieve an NVQ in railway engineering, PTS and Track Induction.
